Being Skincare Journal: Holly McCauley

Holly McCauley is an Art Director, Graphic Designer, Co-owner of Yeah Nice Gallery in Byron Bay and Mother of two girls - Della May Plum and Posey Mac.

Holly and her husband Nick are raising their family in the idyllic hinterland town of Bangalow in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales.

We had a quick chat with Holly to gain a little insight into her daily life and rituals as both a Mother and creative.

My name is.. Holly McCauley

The first thing you should know about me is.. When you first meet me, I won't give too much away.

My star sign is.. Scorpio, Aquarius moon and I can't remember the rising.

I'm currently watching / reading / listening to.. Alone on SBS / The Border Trilogy by Cormack Mccarthy / Skinshape

When I wake up I.. Pull up the blanket and try for a few minutes more sleep.

My favourite plant is.. Any kind of eucalypt.

I feel connected to.. Firstly, myself.

Not many people know that.. I'm half Chinese, I've not once had a normal reaction when I tell people.

My daily beauty routine consists of.. A shower, wash my face with water. When I hop out, I use a face oil (Sans Ceuticals or BEING) then some tinted moisturiser.

I feel most comfortable in.. Sunkissed skin and a well worn tee.

I look up to.. Deep thinkers.

I know I'm home when.. I'm completely at ease and relaxed.

I feel shitty when.. I'm bored.

I feel good when.. I'm with my family and we are all content.

To regain focus I.. Write a list.

I feel most creative when.. I'm not thinking too hard

I try to balance work / life balance by.. A good debrief with a girlfriend

My mother taught me.. To be a hard worker. She also unknowingly taught me to save money.

Motherhood to me is.. So mundane, but also so mystical. I can't overthink it.

Advice to a first time mother.. In the words of Bob Marley, "every little thing’s gonna be alright"

Pregnancy for me was.. Flourishing.

Giving birth for me was.. Passing through a threshold.

To end the day I.. Shower and wash the day away, before jumping into bed.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is.. That "Every little thing is gonna be alright" by Bob Marley. This was recited to me by a random old man on a beach in Bali as I walked with a big pregnant belly.
